How to fail at NaNoWriMo

Hey there y’all. Are you ready to fail at the biggest, month-long writing challenge on the internet?

Okay. Not really.

Maybe.

For those of you outside of the insanity that is the world of writing, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. It runs the whole of November and the goal is to write 50,000. Essentially you try to knock out the rough draft of a novel in 30 days.

Not to brag or anything but I’ve finished it three times. And those three manuscripts became finished books. (That you can *shameless plug* buy here.)

I thought I’d take up the challenge again this year.

While editing and releasing my third book.

Just a couple of months after moving into a new house. A new house that is a work in progress.

So in other news, I’m insane.

I haven’t failed the NaNo challenge yet. But it isn’t looking great. I think I’ll have to create my own little writing challenge in January so I can finally get the first draft of my fourth book finished. I’m not even going to say I’ll get it done during the Christmas holidays. That’s not going to happen. I honestly shouldn’t have taken this on. I knew I’d get my edits back this month. I knew I’d have to format my book and finish the art for the paperback version of my book. I knew I’d be dealing with workmen at my house and all the other stuff that comes with a fixer-upper house. I’m just a moron sometimes. Anyone who knows me in real life will back that up I’m sure. I always underestimate how much time things will take and how much free time I’ll have.

Someday I’ll learn. (Probably not.)

Anyway…in more positive news, my third book will be out on November 30th. Yay! Follow me on Facebook or Instagram to get all the teasers and updates. I’ll post the preorder link both those places later today. (Hopefully.)

Look for more new stuff from me as the year winds down. I just got my workshop wired so I can finally start some DIY projects for the new house. I’ll try and create some good how-to posts from those projects.

Hope y’all have a wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving this week.

  1. I totally hear you about the “trying to fix up the new house while also doing stuff and oh yeah, writing” thing. I have so far managed to keep up with the challenge but only because of the patience and encouragement of Spouse. I managed to make two NaNo challenges into books with a third as an unfinished manuscript so I am happy about that too. Good luck to you in your January Challenge!

  2. Oh gosh i wish i could complete a book. It is less the work and more the setting and plot that I am stuck on. Congratulations !!!
